Best Things to Do in Cebu: 15 Incredible Experiences You Shouldn’t Miss
Cebu is often considered the gateway to the Philippines, but it is far more than just a stopover destination. Combining stunning beaches, world-famous marine life, dramatic waterfalls, rich history, and vibrant city life, Cebu offers some of the most diverse travel experiences in Southeast Asia.
Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, cultural attractions, or unforgettable island-hopping excursions, Cebu has something for every traveller.
After exploring the island ourselves, here are the best things to do in Cebu that deserve a place on your itinerary.
1. Go Whale Shark Watching in Oslob
Oslob whale shark watching is one of the most popular things to do in Cebu, with sightings almost guaranteed as the sharks are regularly fed by locals.
During our visit, we even saw younger whale sharks around five metres long, and in a surprising moment, one came very close with its tail brushing past us. The total experience lasts about 2-3 hours including boat transit and orientation, however the actual time with the whale sharks is closer to 45mins. It is best to arrive early as it gets crowded quickly. We reached around 6 am and it was already busy, so an early start is highly recommended.
After the activity, most tours continue to nearby attractions, and for us the next stop was Tumalog Falls.
Yes, it is absolutely worth it, as seeing this magnificent creature is a once in a lifetime experience.

2. Discover Tumalog Falls
Tumalog Falls is located just 10 minutes from the Oslob whale shark area and offers a completely different experience from the excitement of whale shark watching.
This unique curtain waterfall gently flows over a wide limestone cliff, creating a beautiful veil of water that feeds into a striking turquoise pool below.
We visited Tumalog Falls immediately after our whale shark tour, and it was the perfect place to slow down and relax. The views are stunning, the atmosphere is peaceful, and visitors can take a refreshing dip in the cool water. The water was definitely cold during our visit, but it was well worth it after spending the morning out in the sun.

3. Experience the Famous Kawasan Falls
No list of Cebu attractions would be complete without Kawasan Falls.
Known for its striking turquoise water, it is one of the most photographed waterfalls in the Philippines. Visitors can swim in natural pools, ride bamboo rafts, or simply relax in the jungle surroundings.
The water colour is even more impressive in person.
If you want a different perspective, the canyoneering adventure below offers a more active way to experience it.
For stays nearby, we stayed at Cuestas Beach Resort and Restaurant in Badian, a convenient and beautiful base for Kawasan and surrounding activities.

Canyoneering in Badian is one of the most exciting things to do in Cebu.
The route takes you through rivers, cliffs, and jungle canyons, ending directly at Kawasan Falls.
Expect:
-Cliff jumps into clear pools from various heights
-River trekking and swimming
-Sliding down natural rock formations
It is an adrenaline-filled experience that combines adventure with natural beauty.
Our parents did not join, so they went straight to Kawasan and met us at the end.

5. Hike to Osmeña Peak
Osmeña Peak is the highest point in Cebu and offers panoramic views of jagged green limestone peaks.
The hike is short and easy, around 15–20 minutes from the jump-off point, making it accessible to most travellers.
On a clear day, you get sweeping views across southern Cebu and nearby islands. It is often included in multi-stop South Cebu tours with Moalboal and Kawasan.

6. Snorkel with Sardines at Moalboal
Moalboal is home to the famous Sardine Run, where millions of sardines move in massive synchronized formations just offshore.
During our sardine run tour, we visited three snorkeling spots: reefs near Pescador Island, a turtle site where we spotted several sea turtles, and finally the incredible Sardine Run itself.
Swimming through dense schools of fish moving as one was one of the most unforgettable experiences of the trip.

Sumilon Island is a small tropical island near Oslob known for crystal-clear waters and white sand beaches.
We stayed overnight at Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort, which allowed us to experience the island beyond a day trip.
It is the Philippines’ first marine protected sanctuary, which explains the rich marine life and excellent visibility.
Highlights include snorkelling in the marine reserve, kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking trails, and the famous sandbar.
It was one of the most relaxing parts of our Cebu trip.
