How Many Days Do You Need in Cebu? Our 4-Day Itinerary & Cost Guide
The two most common questions when planning a trip to Cebu is: how many days do you actually need and is it cheap?
After spending a week in Cebu, we’d say that 4 days is the sweet spot for most travellers.
Although we spent a full week on the island, our main itinerary was completed in just four days. The extra time was spent relaxing and working remotely due to a flight situation that we cover in a separate article.
Four days gave us enough time to experience Cebu’s waterfalls, beaches, whale sharks, mountain viewpoints, and historic attractions.
Could you spend longer? Absolutely. Cebu is one of the Philippines’ most diverse destinations, and many visitors combine it with neighbouring islands such as Bohol, Siquijor, or Negros. However, if you’re looking for a single itinerary that covers the island’s highlights, four days is enough to experience many of Cebu’s most famous attractions.
Our trip included canyoneering at Kawasan Falls, snorkelling in Moalboal, swimming with whale sharks in Oslob, an overnight stay on Sumilon Island, and exploring Cebu City’s historic landmarks. Here’s exactly how we did it.
PS: The credit for this itinerary goes to one of our Filipino family members, who carefully planned the entire trip, including the route, activities, accommodation, and budget.
Our 4-Day Cebu Itinerary
Day 1: Cebu City & Drive to Badian
After arriving in Cebu early in the morning, we collected our rental van and spent the first part of the day exploring Cebu City’s historic centre.
Highlights included:
- Basilica Minore del Santo Niño
- Magellan’s Cross
- Fort San Pedro
After lunch, we made the three-hour drive south to Badian, which would be our base for the next two nights. We arrived in the late afternoon and spent the remainder of the day relaxing by the beach and enjoying the resort’s pool before preparing for the adventures ahead.
Overnight: Cuestas Beach Resort, Badian

Day 2: Kawasan Falls, Moalboal & Osmeña Peak
This was easily our busiest and most adventurous day.
We started the morning with one of Cebu’s most iconic experiences: canyoneering through rivers, cliffs, and waterfalls before reaching the stunning turquoise pools of Kawasan Falls. It was every bit as exciting as we’d hoped and quickly became one of the highlights of our trip.
We did the canyoneering first, to avoid trekking in the peak heat.
In the afternoon, we joined a Moalboal island-hopping tour, where we experienced the famous Sardine Run, spotted sea turtles, and snorkelled around Pescador Island.
The day was scheduled to finish with a sunset visit to Osmeña Peak, offering panoramic views over southern Cebu. However, depending on how long your canyoneering experience takes, you may find yourself arriving later than planned and missing sunset. It’s worth keeping this flexibility in mind when booking your tours.

Day 3: Oslob Whale Sharks & Sumilon Island
An early 3am start took us south to Oslob for one of Cebu’s most famous attractions: swimming with whale sharks.
Afterwards, we visited the beautiful Tumalog Falls before boarding a boat to Sumilon Island and checking into Sumilon Island Resort.
The remainder of the day was spent snorkelling, relaxing on the beach, and enjoying the island’s crystal-clear waters. After two busy days of sightseeing and adventure, Sumilon provided the perfect opportunity to slow down and enjoy Cebu’s tropical island scenery.

Day 4: Simala Shrine & Cebu City
After breakfast and a final snorkel around the marine sanctuary, we returned to the mainland and began our journey back towards Cebu City.
Along the way, we stopped at the impressive Simala Shrine, one of the most remarkable religious sites in the Philippines. Its castle-like architecture makes it one of Cebu’s most unique landmarks and a worthwhile stop even for non-religious visitors.
Back in Cebu City, we finished our trip with dinner at Sugbo Mercado, sampling a variety of local dishes and enjoying the lively atmosphere of one of the city’s most popular food markets.

How Much Does a 4-Day Cebu Trip Cost?
Like many destinations in the Philippines, Cebu offers excellent value for money. While international flights will likely be your biggest expense, depending on where you’re travelling from, accommodation, transport, and activities are all relatively affordable.
Excluding international flights to the Philippines, a 4-day Cebu itinerary can cost approximately PHP 20,610 (AED 1,375) per person for a well-rounded trip. Travelling as part of a larger group can significantly reduce costs, particularly for accommodation and transport.
Accommodation: Budget around AED 150+ per night for two people, although prices can vary considerably depending on location, season, and hotel standard. Resorts like the ones we stayed in can get booked out months in advance. Group bookings can often secure better rates.
Transport: Our self-drive van rental worked out to approximately AED 140 per person for the total duration of the trip, plus around AED 40 per person for fuel. Sharing a vehicle gave us much more flexibility than joining multiple organised tours.
Activities: It is approximately PHP 5,541 (AED 369) per person on activities. This included a combined Kawasan Falls canyoneering, Moalboal island hopping, Pescador Island snorkelling, Sardine Run, turtle encounters, and Osmeña Peak tour for PHP 4,041 (AED 269), plus the Oslob whale shark experience for PHP 1,500 (AED 100).
Food: Cebu is very affordable for dining. Local meals typically cost AED 10-27, while larger restaurant meals can range from AED 33-67 per person. We’d recommend budgeting PHP 1,000-2,000 per day for food and drinks to comfortably enjoy a mix of local eateries, cafés, and restaurants.
